BACKGROUND

Blue Forests has been implementing integrated mangrove management programs in Indonesia since 2000. We were initially known as Yayasan Akar Rumput Laut and Mangrove Action Project – Indonesia before officially changing name to Yayasan Hutan Biru (Blue Forests Foundation) in 2014. Blue Forests and our partners have implemented integrated mangrove management projects in 15 provinces undertaking restoration, sustainable livelihoods, environmental education, and good governance programs for mangrove conservation.

Blue Forests has facilitated 8 villages in Mimika and Asmat since 2015 to undertake resilience assessments to inform the creation of village development plans. The approach used is known as Kampung LESTARI (Village Conservation) and is being adopted across Papua and West Papua by Provincial Planning Agencies (BAPPEDA). We intend to continue to facilitate two villages who have already undergone resilience assessment and have begun creating and implementing village sustainable development plans (Atuka, Mimika, and Yepem, Asmat), While adding two new villages (Ipaya or Pigapu, Mimika and Ayam or Atsj, Asmat).

Program Goal

Strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity of both the indigenous people (Kamoro and Asmat) and the landscape (Lorentz lowlands) through the development of sustainable utilization and adaptive collaborative management of mangrove and lowland swamp forests.

Program Objectives

  • Increase indigenous peoples’ access to and control over healthy mangrove and lowland swamp forest resources at the village and district levels.
  • Maintain and protect the Lorentz lowlands mangrove and swamps forests through sustainable, fair, and local (indigenous) control, protection, and utilization.
  • Enhance the collaborative management of natural resources in the area of mangrove and lowland swamps forests covering an area of 200,000 ha through active participation of the community, indigenous institutions, village government, and other relevant stakeholders.

Main Activities

  1. Investigate social-economic and ecological conditions in the village to inform program planning and intervention.
  2. Understand and strengthen indigenous management practices and ensure their continuation with younger generations.
  3. Strengthen village governance by integrating indigenous management with village planning, programming, and budgeting.
  4. Promote sustainable equitable and sustainable natural resource use in line with indigenous management practices and traditions.
  5. Monitoring of natural resource use and illegal operations.

 

OBJECTIVE

Project Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the work plan implementation, project targets, and indicators at the site level through active coordination with the project team, related stakeholders, as well as project partners.


 

TASKS

  1. Ensure all activities run in accordance with the regulations and policies of institutions, donors, and the government.
  2. Provide direction and guidance for the implementation of each activity and reporting to program team members.
  3. Coordinate the roles division to team members in the implementation for all program activities.
  4. Responsible for regular coordination and communication with project team members, stakeholders, and project partners in ensuring that the program implementation and technical achievements proceed according to the work plan,
  5. Be involved in the technical implementation according to the work plan.
  6. Coordinate actively with the Blue Forests’ Advisors and Directors to ensure that the output achievement of each activity runs according to the planning and available budget.
  7. Responsible for representing Blue Forests in regular meetings and communications.
  8. Ensure the administrative procedures run well in accordance with institutional and project rules, including the approval process.
  9. Build and maintain cooperative relationships with stakeholders.
  10. Prepare reports to the Blue Forests Director based on required standards.
  11. Other duties and roles assigned by the Director of Blue Forests by mutual agreement.

 

Requirement

Education

Minimum Bachelor degree (S1) in Social Science, Forestry, Marine, Biology, or other relevant fields.

Experience

  1. Minimum 2 years’ experience in leading and managing project implementation at local and national levels.
  2. Experienced in working with the community, donors, government, private agencies, and stakeholders involved in the project.
  3. Experienced in facilitating and working at the community level.

Competencies

  1. Have basic knowledge related to environmental, social, indigenous conditions and policies in Mimika, Papua.
  2. Have an understanding and interest in sustainable development aspect.
  3. Good communication skills both verbally and in writing in Indonesian and English.
  4. Be able to facilitate meetings with the parties.
  5. Be Able to work with various parties from multicultural backgrounds.
  6. Write and present a narrative report.
  7. Planning and managing the program budget.
  8. Be Able to work independently or with a team in coordinating activities between various parties.
  9. Have good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  10. Mastering computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and project management applications (Google Drive, Zoom, etc.).
  11. Willing to work in the field during the contract period.
