Mimika Regency has an area of around 21,693.51 km2 or 4.75% of the total area of Papua Province. In this area, Kab. Mimika has a mangrove forest area of 250,000 hectares and is inhabited mostly by local Kamoro people.
A number of Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD) under the umbrella of the Mimika Regional Government in collaboration with the USAID Lestari program and are members of the Mimika Multi Stakeholder Forum (MSF). The OPD included Bappeda, the Environment Agency, the Fisheries Service, the Community Empowerment and Village Offices, etc. Together with other parties in the Mimika MSF, the Mimika Regional Government has a strong determination to realize sustainable development and increase the empowerment of indigenous peoples.
